Neverthless, it is always possible to communicate the composer's intention, and therefore the score is presented in this edition as Thea Musgrave wrote it, and as she hopes the listener will imagine it, rather than as a precise depiction of the literal sound that one performer might produce. The ears of the listener, rather then the fingers of the performer, guide the fingering. This means that in the first serenade, Cantaor, for example, repeated notes are fingered on adjacent strings rather then on one string. If instead, the notes were simply played on one string, which would be easier for the performer, the sound might not be so interesting. Whilst this fingering is a model that pleases the composer and the editor, the score is presented as the composer conceived it, and other fingerings are possible. - Michael Lorimer (editor) Suggested duration: 1 min 50 sec Comments and suggestions for improving the phrasing of the MIDI are welcome. measure 1 - the sheet shows a barre on the 10th fret for the first 3 chords (??) measure 29 - the upstroke (1st chord) is played with the index finger measure 31 - the sheet has the fingering of the last chord 234 (not 324) which would be correct if the chord was A Eb G C (rather than A Eb Gb C) left hand fingering below tab right hand fingering above tab 1 - index finger p - thumb 2 - middle finger i - index finger 3 - ring finger m - middle finger 4 - little finger a - ring finger === - note held, length of note, duration > - (above the tab) accented, stressed ^ - downstroke - strum from the lowest note to the highest note v - upstroke - strum from the highest note to the lowest note / - slide note up - - tenuto - note held for at least its full length, or a little longer , - slight pause (breath mark) |-3-| - triplet - 3 notes played in the time of 2 notes arp. - arpeggiate - ripple upwards from the lowest note to the highest note g - grace note (ornament) - here played as an acciaccatura - extra note(s) played at the same time as, or just before the main note, then immediately released h - hammer-on p - pull-off rasq. - rasgueo or rasgueado (flamenco style strumming) <12> - natural (open) harmonic on the 12th fret cI - part barre on the 1st fret CII - barre on the 2nd fret cVI - part barre on the 6th fret CVI - barre on the 6th fret CVII - barre on the 7th fret CIX - barre on the 9th fret expressions (below the tab) - < < - crescendo, growing louder > > - decrescendo, growing softer cresc. - growing louder dim. - diminuendo - diminishing, gradually getting softer f - forte - loud mf - mezzoforte - moderately loud p - piano - soft rit. - ritenuto (or ritardando) - slowing down sfz - strongly accented, suddenly louder ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ see the latest version of this tab at http://www.classtab.org
